Se-ah-dom Edmo (Shoshone-Bannock, Nez Perce and Yakama) brings deep experience in community organizing for racial and social justice work across the nation. Prior to joining Seeding Justice, Se-ah-dom<\/span> served as the Sovereignty Program Director at Western States Center<\/a> where she was the coalition convener of Tribal History: Shared History (Senate Bill 13, 2017) in Oregon, which established and funded the teaching of Indian History and Sovereignty in K \u2013 12 schools across the state. Se-ah-dom<\/span> is also the co-editor of the Tribal Equity Toolkit 3.0: Tribal Resolutions and Codes for Two Spirit and LGBT Justice in Indian Country<\/a> and American Indian Identity: Citizenship, Membership & Blood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A hallmark of her career has been fostering relationships and collaborations between tribes and organizations doing social, racial, environmental, and economic justice work across the region. She is an\u00a0ALF<\/a>\u00a0Senior Fellow and a member of the\u00a0Philanthropy Northwest Board<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Oregon Worker Relief Board<\/a>, and was the chair of the board of Oregon Consumer Justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A longtime communications professional, Joe was most recently a consultant supporting <\/span>the launch of Seeding Justice\u2019s Oregon Community Climate Investment Fund<\/span>, strategic planning and mascot change at Lewis & Clark College, and development at Yale Divinity School.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe grew up in the Lehigh Valley\u2014not too far from Philadelphia (or NYC) but a world apart\u2014on land that had previously been farmed by his grandfather and kin. The first in his family to go to college, Joe attended school in North Carolina and worked for Duke University Press in editorial and marketing roles following graduation. In 2000, he moved to Oregon to be near his spouse’s family.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2001, after the briefest of stints in law school, Joe joined the communications team at Lewis & Clark, where he later headed up the shop and was a member of the executive council for seven years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shona\u00a0was born in Southern Indiana, attended high school in Portland, and at 19, moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she lived for nearly 25 years. Wherever she is rooted, Shona draws upon her lived experience and education to support the community\u2019s most pressing issues.<\/p>\n

With more than 23 years in philanthropy, Shona most recently served as the Director of Partner Engagement & Investment at the Black Future Co-op Fund\u2014Washington state\u2019s first fund by and for Black people. Her previous roles include VP of Community Engagement and Strategy at the Community Foundation for SW Washington, Senior Philanthropic Advisor at The San Francisco Foundation, and Associate Program Officer at the Clorox Company Foundation.<\/p>\n

Shona is a co-founder of the\u00a0Southwest Washington Equity Coalition,<\/a>\u00a0a cross-sector coalition of community leaders and organizations working to advance racial equity, and drive institutional and political change. She serves on the board of Philanthropy Northwest, the I5 Bridge Replacement Equity Committee, and several arts organizations.<\/p>\n

She holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA in Corporate Social Responsibility from Mills College. Shona lives in Vancouver, Washington, with her partner, Kelvin. Kina is the program director of Gender Hive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kina is a parent of two children, one of whom attends school in the Bend-La Pine Schools District and another who will (hopefully) begin Kindergarten in Bend-La Pine Schools\u2019 phenomenal Spanish Dual Immersion program. Kina and their siblings are first-generation college graduates. Their father enlisted in the U.S. Air Force directly after graduating from high school and later retired after serving for more than 20 years. Kina\u2019s mother emigrated from the Philippines and eventually earned her GED while raising three children and working full-time. Kina has always been acutely aware of the dedication, perseverance and sacrifices that had been made on their behalf. It is this grit and these values that drive Kina\u2019s passion for quality public education and access for all.<\/span><\/p>\n

As someone who is biracial and part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, Kina has been on the receiving end of discrimination and harassment. They know what it feels like to be excluded. On the contrary, Kina has also had pivotal moments when Black and Brown teachers saw something in them and went out of their way to ensure Kina felt heard, seen, and empowered. These moments of belonging fuel Kina\u2019s passion for elevating youth in our community. Students experience these remarkable moments at celebrations like Juneteenth and at programs like the Youth Equity Leadership Summit. George is the director of More Equitable Democracy. Prior to this, he served as program director for the Joyce Foundation\u2019s Democracy Program and co-chair of the Funders\u2019 Committee for Civic Participation. Cheung was also executive director of the Win\/Win Network, an affiliate of State Voices, and founder\/executive director of Equal Rights Washington, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Teresa has worked as a Community Health Promoter and dedicated more than 35 years to community health promotion, designing and implementing programs for the well-being of the Latino community. Her work in Hood River, with initiatives such as La Familia Sana and Madres en Marcha, has focused on domestic violence prevention, mental health, and family strengthening. I facilitate the HAPA (Self-Responsible Men to Stop Abuse) group. Facilitating support groups and promoting resilience and addressing difficult issues using the philosophy and methodology of Popular Education, to bring hope to those places of struggle where we witness how people can transform their lives and the world around them. Teresa has also designed curriculum and trained Community Health Promoters in culturally diverse communities, locally, statewide, and nationally. Teresa is a Certified Instructor in Nia, Yoga and Social Justice, as well as Trauma-Informed Yoga, and Yoga and Therapy. Teresa integrates movement, healing, and social awareness into her teaching. Her commitment to social justice, liberatory theology, and holistic well-being inspires those around her to build a healthier, more equitable world. I am one of the founders of Natural Leaders. We are a group of community members who have organized, trained, and engaged in promoting healthy communities. Steven Crawford is an attorney and housing advocate, and has been active in Oregon since 2016. He moved from Montana to attend law school at Willamette University College of Law. Upon passing the Bar, he opened his own practice briefly to assist Oregonians facing hardship in their housing, accepting cases at a reduced rate in order to assist low-income housing consumers. He then worked with Legal Aid Services of Oregon for about six years with a focus on housing. Rebekah joined Neighborhood Partnerships in April 2022. Originally from the high desert in eastern Washington, she moved to Portland in 2013 to attend the University of Portland where she studied rhetoric and graduated in 2017. She\u2019s currently a Master\u2019s of Urban and Regional Planning student at Portland State University. Rebekah\u2019s work background has primarily been in copywriting and developmental editing for nonfiction works. She leads several tenant organizations, grassroots campaigns for tenant rights and wants renters everywhere to recognize tenancy as a political position. In late 2023 she became the Housing Alliance Coalition Organizer.<\/p>\n

Rebekah writes essay and creative nonfiction. Kim is committed to addressing the struggles of renters in Oregon. She recognizes that central to that struggle are systemic and historic barriers to housing, economic and environmental justice faced by people of color, women, indigenous communities, LGBTQ people, and people with disabilities. She believes that CAT\u2019s model of community engagement, education, and advocacy works to empower renters to make the changes they need. <\/p>\n

Kim\u2019s career includes community organizing, contract management, and policy development. She has a wide range of housing sector experience including affordable housing development, property management, and housing policy with a focus on renters and Fair Housing. <\/p>\n

In all of her work, she has brought the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Lisa Rogers is Deputy Director at CASA of Oregon and has been with the agency since 1999. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency to ensure that the CASA purpose and values are implemented. Lisa has demonstrated accomplishments in financial management, administration, program and project development, supervision, analysis and problem-solving. She serves on the Chehalem Parks and Recreation District Board of Directors, and the Chehalem Cultural Center Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

Prior to CASA Lisa worked for 10 years as a float manager, business manager and housing manager. She spent 2 years in Brazil working at an American Brazilian school as their business manager and one year in Guinea Bissau working with United States Agency for International Development. Garlynn is a fifth-generation Oregonian, urban planner, and DJ dedicated to building equitable, walkable communities powered by cooperation, culture, and climate action. With nearly three decades of experience in regional planning, housing policy, urban analytics, and development, he leads PLACE Initiative, a national nonprofit advancing people-centered, climate-resilient urbanism.<\/p>\n

He also runs the planning consultancy Woodsong Associates; chairs OR Co-Op, the Oregon Cooperative Housing Network (OCHN); and is the Owner and Managing Broker of FORMA Realty. His work includes co-developing UrbanFootprint at Calthorpe Associates; serving as the first Regional GIS Planner at the San Francisco Bay Area\u2019s Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC); and pioneering Portland\u2019s adaptive re-use conversion of single-family homes into fourplexes under modern code.<\/p>\n

The elected president of the Cascadia chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), Garlynn also serves on the UN-Habitat World Urban Campaign steering committee. Elaine (Yakama citizen from the Kamiltpah and Wilawitis bands) is respected for both her professional and educational accomplishments as well as her dedication in the longhouse communities to the culture of the Columbia River Plateau people. Prior to taking on her role as Watershed Department Manager at the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC), Elaine worked in a number of different capacities for the Yakama Nation Fisheries program, including project manager for the Rock Creek Fish and Habitat project, Hydrosystems Oversight Coordinator, and Environmental Coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elaine\u2019s work and experience makes her uniquely prepared to combine traditional wisdom and knowledge with Western science in the efforts to save salmon and the rivers where they live.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She has also served as an Executive Board Member of Columbia Land Trust , board member of the Friends of the White Salmon, and partners with Columbia Riverkeeper, an organization that protects the Columbia River, the environment, and supports tribes to protect treaty-reserved resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

Roy is a first generation Japanese American, born in Tokyo and raised in Southern California. His love for Oregon rivers has led to a 20-year career in water quality and watershed management in local government. He leads the Clean Rivers Coalition, a collaborative partnership of public and non-profit organizations, that launched Follow the Water, the first statewide clean water outreach campaign in Oregon. He has a Master’s degree in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Roselyn Poton is a Filipina American, mother, and first-generation college graduate. <\/span>The intersection of environmental justice, community focus, and health guides Poton\u2019s work as Water Justice Coordinator at Verde and Coordinating Team Member at Oregon Water Future\u2019s Collaborative (OWF).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nurtured over the years, Poton\u2019s motivation to work with water grew through professional roles and academic studies. Her passion began as a healthcare professional where she learned to compassionately navigate complex relationships that required patience, creative problem solving, and collaborative skills to manage and care for diverse populations with different health needs to promote positive health outcomes. Continuing to fuel her passion, Poton earned a MS in General Social Science with a concentration in Environment, Globalization, and Policy and double minoring in Global Health and Global Studies from the University of Oregon (UofO). This experience showed her how important the environment is in influencing health and how policies shape the world around us. Poton\u2019s interest in the environment deepened when she participated in the study abroad program, Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice and inspired her to co-found the student-led group at UofO, Students for Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice (SIREJ). Poton knew after completing the study abroad program that she needed to better understand how to navigate complex environmental issues to achieve her goals. Poton then obtained a MS in Conflict and Dispute Resolution specializing in Environmental Conflicts involving water from UofO.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poton understands that a healthy environment is the foundation for health and that communities and relationships are key to furthering water and environmental justice. Without access to clean and safe water, land, and air \u2013 communities and the life that compose them cannot exist in healthy and balanced ways. Mary Lou Soscia worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC and the Pacific Northwest for 38 years. Protecting human health and ecosystem restoration in Indian Country throughout the US and especially in the Pacific NW was a key foundation for her work: she provided leadership for the Oregon human health criteria to protect high tribal fish consumers, the most protective state criteria in the nation at that time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She also created and led the Columbia River Basin Restoration Program which became a Clean Water Act amendment and received $79 million from Congress in 2021 to reduce toxics to protect human health and increase ecosystem resilience. A leader for over 25 years on Columbia River water temperature issues and decisions\u2014which have become more critical and complex with a warming climate\u2014she\u2019s also worked for the States of Maryland, Wyoming, and Oregon; and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Monica started as a volunteer with MRG Foundation\u2019s Justice Within Reach annual event and found deep connection to Seeding Justices\u2019 mission and value and supporting the great work of grantees across the state.<\/p>\n

Crystallee Crain Ph.D. is a public health scholar and human rights activist. She has academic roots in sociology, political science, and psychology. She specializes in exposing the layers of institutional inequality while supporting communities to shift ways of being and practice to improve life chances. By bridging the worlds of academia and activism, Crystallee\u2019s body of work represents a collective need to strengthen our responses to violence through transformative means, the need for liberation, and a focus on healing as a revolutionary strategy for change.<\/p>\n

Crystallee is the Founder & Director of Prevention at the Intersections,<\/a> an organization that works to prevent violence through community-based research and people centers projects. Tamia came to grassroots organizing after being diagnosed with breast cancer and post-traumatic stress. Her journey back to wellness without adequate resources taught her that the people most impacted by injustice must also be the ones who identify the problems and implement the solutions and inspired her to found a nonprofit in 2017, PDX Alliance for Self-Care, focused on improving access to care for her community. Her work during the pandemic, protests, and wildfire response of 2020 connected her with an invaluable mutual aid network and a vast community of first responders, healthcare providers, and activists. That experience continues to inform her consulting work at the intersection of health equity and climate justice.<\/p>\n

Tamia finds joy in mentoring young people and helping BIPoC, LGBTQIA+, and neurodiverse students access educational and leadership opportunities. She is a passionate healthcare advocate in her role as a Community Health Center Board Chair and founding board member of BIPoC Paramedics of Portland.<\/p>\n

Tamia is a die-hard fan of the one and only North London football team, Arsenal Gunners. Judith (jee-deet) is an Afro-Haitian American, female identifying, cis-gender, queer licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She currently resides in the lands of the Northern Paiutes, the Wascos, and the Warm Springs bands. Judith has gained a lot of experience in the field of mental health and continues to challenge her learning and education through seeking support in decolonizing mental health and the way she provides services, creates, teaches and supervises. She is also a university faculty member and is currently a doctoral candidate in a Marriage and Family Doctorate program specializing in program development focusing on increasing parent engagement with adolescents in residential treatment. Judith has years of experience working with outpatient clients through her private practice, Triune Health & Wellness, providing clinical supervision and development in the areas of systemic therapy and healing justice for mental health professionals seeking licensure, and working in Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Programs as a Nature-Based therapist and Family Program Manager for parents with adolescents in residential treatment. Judith is Program Director and Operations for Liberation Pathways Healing Space which focuses on seeding liberation through remembering, connecting, and healing for historically marginalized populations. Ubaldo works as a community organizer with Columbia Riverkeeper in Hood River, conducting community outreach on clean water while promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity. Ubaldo has been an active member in the Latinx community in the Columbia Gorge, participating in projects that promote awareness on issues that are relevant to Latinxs in Oregon and Washington. In the last 15 years, he has launched and participated in multiple projects benefiting the Latinx community, including the local community radio station Radio Tierra. Ricardo Luj\u00e1n-Valerio is Portland City Commissioner Carmen Rubio\u2019s Transition Liaison and Policy Director. Ricardo\u2019s background covers immigration, education, election, and criminal justice policy. He previously served as Director of Advocacy at Latino Network, Policy Associate for the ACLU of Oregon, and as Legislative Director for the Oregon Student Association. Ricardo has been a leader in the passage of various state legislative priorities, such as HB 2015 (Driver Licenses for All) and SB 1008 (Youth Sentencing Reform). Most recently, he was a co-architect of the Oregon Worker Relief Fund, a multi-million-dollar disaster relief program for Oregon\u2019s immigrant community. He previously served as Vice Chair of the City of Portland\u2019s Open and Accountable Elections Commission. As a former elected tribal leader and experienced professional, Willa brings a unique blend of expertise in consulting, nonprofit leadership, and community advocacy. Through her company, Willa Powless Consulting, LLC, Willa offers a distinctive Indigenous perspective, specializing in grant writing, research, and strategic community engagement with Indigenous populations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Willa is also the founder of two nonprofit organizations: Little Sister focuses on promoting safety and responsible decision-making, while Honor the Treaty of 1864 is dedicated to safeguarding tribal rights and resources. Julia (\u201cYulia Pshedvorsky\u201d) is an independent research consultant dedicated to advancing health equity, inclusion, and justice for queer and trans communities, particularly for LGBTQ people navigating multiple, intersecting forms of marginalization. With a background spanning public health research, community activism, and healthcare training, Julia works at the intersections of scholarship and practice to design, implement, and evaluate equity initiatives at community, institutional, and systemic levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Julia has had the opportunity to work in solidarity with many Oregon organizations, including the Marie Equi Institute, Pride in Numbers, Pride Northwest, the Humanitas Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, and the Oregon Health Authority. They have also provided DEI consulting to national and regional healthcare organizations, helping them build more inclusive policies, practices, and cultures. Julia has conducted and <\/span>published<\/span><\/a> many research studies on the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ and other marginalized populations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Julia is an immigrant from Poland and has lived in Portland for the past eight years. They identify as queer, genderfluid\/nonbinary and neurodivergent. They\u2019re white and benefit from white privilege. Julia has experienced houselessness and poverty but has greater class privilege now due to their education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Esperanza is a daughter of East Oakland, California, and Black activist parents. She is the first woman of color to lead a 501c3, 501c4, and PAC collaborative civic engagement formation focused on mobilizing progressive voters of color in the United States and has built a solid reputation as a savvy electoral strategist, seasoned political organizer, and civic engagement innovator.\u00a0 After working in philanthropy as the Chief Strategic Officer for the Groundswell Fund, where she developed and led a $5.4M capacity building program for reproductive justice organizations across the country, she decided her leadership was better served at the intersection of social justice and electoral power building and philanthropy.<\/div>

Abigail is the first generation of her family born in the USA to Filipino parents. Her paternal grandfather survived the Bataan death march and, via creative use of the GI Bill, in one generation shifted from subsistence rice farming in the rural Philippines to a family of teachers, lawyers, accountants, and nurses on three continents. And one granddaughter (me) whose vocation in life defies her family\u2019s abilities to encapsulate in one word.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Based in Portland, Oregon, Abigail has lived and worked over the past twenty years in the Philippines, India, Senegal, Kenya, Italy, Peru and Ecuador, with organizations like the United Nations, the Wildlife Conservation Society, The Lemelson Foundation, the Government of Uruguay, Portland State University and IMPAQTO, a social enterprise accelerator in Ecuador. She loves working in partnership with diverse groups of people to learn, co-create and re-imagine together the systems we work in. This is often through supporting the conditions that allow for power-sharing in philanthropy, community-led philanthropy, mentoring and coaching nonprofit and for-profit social venture leaders, and facilitation of global community impact networks organizing for racial and climate justice, healing, and thriving people and planet. She has also worked as a professional cellist and gymnastics instructor. Abigail earned a M.Sc. in Environmental Science from Yale, holds a B.Sc. in International Politics from Georgetown\u2019s School of Foreign Service, and a certificate in International Law from the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar in Senegal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She love languages, is fluent in English, Spanish and French, and knows enough to get into trouble in Portuguese, Italian, Tagalog, Ilocano (Philippine dialects) and Wolof (S\u00e9n\u00e9gal). Jaylyn is a mother, educator, advocate for social justice and a member of the Confederated Tribe of Warm Springs (CTWS). She was raised in Simnasho, Oregon and is a traditional food gatherer for her Tribe. She is a mother of two beautiful children. Her Indian name is Alish (Ah-lish) which was given to her from her namesake; Margaret Suppah, her grandmother who raised her. Her passion is decolonizing education for herself, her children, her community, and always looks for ways to incorporate her culture into her home, classroom and programming. Jaylyn works for the CTWS as the Community Planner for the Health & Human Services branch advocating and advancing health equity practices and policies. She currently serves on the Oregon Indian Education Association board where she uses her voice to work towards equitable education for all students.<\/p>\n

She developed the Papalaxsimisha<\/a> program which incorporates historical trauma, healing, self-identity, cultural awareness, high school readiness, college and career readiness in a curriculum she and two other native teachers developed. Outside of her policy and advocacy work at Hunger-Free Oregon, Chris also acts as the Administrator to the Oregon Hunger Task Force, and co-facilitator for Hunger-Free Oregon’s SNAP Client Advisory Board.\u00a0She holds two degrees in Gender, Race, and Nations with emphasis on Community Health Equity from Portland State University. Chris has 10 years of lived experience with situational poverty and food insecurity and is dedicated to surrounding herself in work that supports grassroots social change, women\u2019s empowerment and advocacy, and policy changes that reduce racial, social, and gendered disparities. Olivia<\/span><\/a> (she\/her) identifies as a queer, biracial Black survivor and is passionate about identifying oppressive and inequitable structures and coming up with transformative solutions. She currently works as a domestic violence advocate and provides holistic support to BIPOC, international, and LGBTQ+ students in Portland State University’s School of Business. She worked in higher education fundraising for 7 years, done community organizing and workplace organizing, and consults with organizations to advance equity for minoritized folks. Olivia holds a master\u2019s in higher education and student affairs and is a master\u2019s in social work candidate at PSU.<\/span><\/p>\n

Camerina is a bi+ small business owner. Her people are from Cuautla, Jalisco, M\u00e9xico and she comes from a long line of artisans and farmers. Ana Molina joined Seeding Justice\u2019s Board in April 2019, having worked through the Seeding Justice Capacity Building Initiative as part of Beyond Toxics<\/a>. She is now the Movement Building Manager for Columbia Riverkeeper<\/a> where she advocates for environmental and climate justice, ensuring the voices of the people most impacted are at the forefront and leading our conversations.<\/p>\n

Ana lives in Eugene but grew up in South Lake Tahoe, California. Ana moved to Oregon after she graduated from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA where she was involved with student organizing with and for undocumented students on campus and in the community. Makerusa grew up in Portland by way of St. Johns, North Portland. He has been student organizing since early in his college days. He is the founder of the Pacific Islander Student Alliance<\/a> (PISA), which started in 2007 when he was an undergraduate student. He is also the founding coordinator of the Men of Color Leadership Program at Portland Community College<\/a>, and before that, he was the coordinator of the Pacific Islander, Asian and Asian American (PIAAA) Student Center at Portland State University<\/a>, the Manager of Continuing Education at the University of the South Pacific, Majuro Campus, and the Director of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership at Chaminade University.<\/p>\n

Makerusa is a second-generation American Samoan from the village of Fogagogo. Mak started his college education at American Samoa Community College. Born and raised in the Bay Area, her goal is to increase diverse representation in advocacy spaces both locally and statewide, while intersecting social and environmental movements. Intisar Abioto (b. Memphis, TN. 1986) is a movement artist working across photography, dance, and writing. Moving from the visionary and embodied root of Blackgirl Southern cross-temporal cross-modal storytelling ways, her works refer to the living breath\/breadth of people of African descent against the expanse of their storied, geographic, and imaginative landscapes. \u200bWorking in long-form projects that encompass the visual, folkloric, documentary, and performing arts, she has produced \u200bThe People Could Fly Project\u200b, \u200bThe Black Portlanders\u200b, and \u200bThe Black\u200b. Abioto\u2019s publication \u200bBlack Portlands \u200bdocuments interviews with Black Portlanders alongside her photographs. \u200bShe was a contributing photographer to \u200bMFON: Women Photographers of the African Diaspora\u200b (2017) and her photographs illustrated the Urban League of Portland\u2019s \u200bState of Black Oregon 2015\u200b. Zo\u00eb Gamell Brown<\/strong>\u00a0is a queer, first-generation Boviander Guyanese American integrative artist, educator, and storyteller based in Kalapuya Ilihi. Her work explores multiplicity within Guyanese relationality, extending from South American shores to the Caribbean Sea and Gulf Coast through ancestral practices, ceramic sculptures, culinary catharsis, creative nonfiction, experimental video, photopoetry, restorative cartography, and sonic arts.<\/p>\n

Brown is a doctoral student in the University of Oregon Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies\u2019 inaugural cohort and a recipient of the New Media and Culture Certificate. Her research explores the shoals where race and Indigeneity meet within Boviander ecologies, using critical autotheory to practice creative, culinary, microbial, and spiritual care. May Maylisa Cat is a multidisciplinary artist<\/a> whose work spans new media, performance art, sculpture, and installation. She grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated from Cooper Union School of Art in New York, NY.<\/p>\n

Her projects have received support from the Franklin Furnace Fund; Oregon Arts Commission; Open Signal New Media Fellowship; and Regional Arts and Culture Council of Portland, OR. She is a recipient of the 2022 Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship.<\/p>\n

Akela Jaffi<\/strong>\u00a0is a multidisciplinary artist working in Portland Oregon. Training since the age of 14, dance is the craft in which she feels most at home. Movement is her method of connecting with spirit, as well as her ritual for archiving the comings and goings of life. A graduate of Jefferson High School, she is incredibly grateful to the teachers who invested their time and attention into her practice. Akela is the creator or BASS, an artists showcase focused on uplifting black performers of all mediums. Michelle\u2019s work navigates the multifaceted complexity of identity in our communities, a constant excavation to claim their own identity story. After graduating with a UCLA ethnomusicology degree, Michelle studied in Japan with foremost theatrical folk dance company, Warabi-za through a Japanese Bunkacho fellowship. Michelle has been a guest artist and collaborator with numerous North American and international taiko groups. In 2014, Michelle with her partner Toru Watanabe, fused their unique skills to build Unit Souzou, a Portland-based taiko ensemble creating an expressive blend of taiko and Japanese folk dance, forging new traditions for evolving communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

She serves on the board of <\/span>Arts Northwest<\/span><\/a>, Artist Advisory Council of Dance Place, and is the Co-chair of <\/span>Women & Taiko<\/span><\/a>, a movement dedicated to make visible the contributions of womxn taiko leaders. Michelle has been awarded fellowships from the Oregon Arts Commission and the Jubilation Foundation. Roux Haile<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0transdisciplinary artist: I see my practices as a natural byproduct of my daily survival as well as my passions; identity and creativity as elements which constantly inform eachother, resistant to compartmentalization that white supremacy encourages. Dance and circus work centers my physical disability and Black identity creating liminal space where assistive devices, Afro-centric movement and the Black Queer erotic coalesce. Because African body modification is often vilified and warped by colonialism, anti-Blackness and anti-indigeneity: my tattoo work is based in a desire to re-sanctify the relationship between client and artist. I am moving away from the detached, capitalistic relationship fostered by American Traditional tattooing, seeking to elevate and center Black bodily autonomy and determination. My social practice as director and co-founder of Ori Gallery is birthed out of the necessity for arts spaces that do not cater to the dominant hegemony and center the creative contributions of my communities. Silver (he\/they) is an AfroIndigenous, Non-binary Creative Polymath: an Interdisciplinary Artist, Visionary, and Advocate. Silver\u2019s work is a means to explore self-expression, sovereignty, and mysticism. His creative process is rooted in the academy and his dynamic life experience. In 2020, Silver was featured via National Geographic, Willamette Week, and Oregon Public Broadcasting for their efforts in the Movement for Black Lives. Sandee is a financial professional passionate about dedicating her skills and knowledge to the nonprofit world. Sandee grew up in mainland China and joined KPMG, a \u201cBig Four\u201d accounting firm, as a financial auditor after finishing her master\u2019s degree. Though she loved auditing, she found she wanted to do more to help those in need. Sandee came to the U.S. in 2012 and received her master\u2019s degree in public policy at the University of Kentucky while working on the finance team at Save the Children Foundation. She later took over as Director of Finance and Operations for the International Center at the University of Kentucky from 2015-2021. As a queer, Chinese, and first-generation immigrant, Sandee finds Seeding Justice as her happy start in Portland where she can put her love of Excel and data analytics together while working for a just and joyful world.<\/p>\n

Kentucky life has heavily influenced Sandee\u2019s life \u2014she likes woodworking, carpentry, BBQ, eating fried chicken, and drinking bourbon with bourbon chocolate, to name a few. She also enjoys taking walks with her partner, learning guitar, drawing silly cartoon characters, reading art and architecture history, learning foreign languages, and talking to her cat.<\/p>\n

Angelie grew up in Portland, Oregon and has been active in the local nonprofit scene for 10 years. Originally interested in children\u2019s therapy, she ended up finding a good fit in disability supports back in 2013. She has provided consultations related to accessibility and racial equity in the workplace, and has dabbled in general social services \u2014 finding early on that she much preferred work that wasn\u2019t systems-focused, and sought out positions where she could connect with people on a human level without having to uphold systemic inequities for those seeking support. Much of her work has been community and relationship centered.<\/p>\n

Approaching her work from a relationship-based, person-centered point of view, Angelie has always found it important to take people\u2019s identities & experiences into account \u2014 why might people think or communicate in certain ways? Which life experiences have led us to the beliefs that we hold now? How can we adjust our language so that certain concepts or ideas are more accessible to a wider variety of people?<\/p>\n

Throughout her working journey, she has found the best fit in places that recognize some of these universal needs: to see and be seen, and to know and be known. In her free time you can find her listening to music, working on an art project, playing Switch games, or finding a nice patch of grass to relax in.<\/p>\n

Mike Moran is a strategic and mission-driven fundraising executive with over 20 years of experience leading high-performing development teams and advancing transformational philanthropic initiatives. Most recently serving as Senior Director of Development at the Oregon State University Foundation (OSUF), Mike built and led the organization\u2019s largest development team and increased annual fundraising from $3 million to over $15 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

A trusted fundraiser and campaign architect, Mike created and led OSUF\u2019s $500 million Student Success Initiative\u2014raising more than $350 million to date in support of financial aid, scholarships, and student-centered programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout his career, Mike consistently exceeded fundraising goals, launched new programs, and provided strategic counsel to leadership in multiple sectors. Amanda is an accountant with more than 12 years of experience in for-profits, nonprofits, and different modes of philanthropy, from intermediaries to a private foundation. Centering social justice has helped her make meaningful contributions, like creating financial processes to support capacity and relationship building and co-designing a contracting process to compensate community members for their expertise. She joined Seeding Justice in the spirit of choosing reciprocity over accumulation and she is hopeful for futures shaped by and for communities.<\/p>\n

She holds a B.A. in linguistics and literature from University of California, Santa Cruz and is currently studying for her post-baccalaureate certificate in accounting at Portland State University\u2019s School of Business. Amber grew up in Northern California before making Portland her home over two decades ago. Her nonprofit career started as a volunteer at In Other Words, a historic community center, where she eventually served as Co-Director. In this leadership role, she helped establish a successful monthly giving program and launched a free community library focused on feminist social justice literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

Building on this experience, Amber transitioned fully into development operations at Mercy Corps, eventually assisting with essential data preparation for an eventual CRM migration at Stanford Children’s Hospital. Amber brings a versatile combination of operational support skills and a deep commitment to mission-driven work, focusing on efficiency and effective organizational support for positive social impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

In her free time, Amber enjoys volunteering with wildlife, birding, crafting, and hanging out with her pack of rescue animals.<\/span><\/p>\n

A passionate advocate for social justice and a proud immigrant from Paraguay, Violeta has more than 15 years of experience improving access to opportunities, services and programs for excluded communities. Before joining Seeding Justice, Violeta worked in various fields including private philanthropy, labor and immigrant rights, community economic development, financial education, and state government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of work, Violeta serves on the boards of the Northwest Workers’ Justice Project<\/a>, and Uplift Local News<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Violeta lives in SE Portland with her partner and their cat, Lola. She loves growing food in her community garden plot, feeding birds and squirrels in her backyard, and traveling around the world to spend time with loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kathleen (Kathy for short) is a queer, Sino Cambodian, child of refugees, born and raised in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Seeding Justice, she spent the majority of her adult and professional life in the Bay Area working in higher education as a media + resource coordinator and as a community organizer challenging displacement and gentrification through coalition building, tenant rights education and community advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kathleen moved to Portland with her partner and their dog in 2021. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, spending quality time with her little family, solving jigsaw puzzles, and searching for desserts to satisfy her sweet tooth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ray is the son of a Rwandese mother and an American father from Long Beach, California. He spent most of his formative years in eastern and southern Africa, came to Portland, Oregon in 2013 for college and has remained ever since. Having grown up in diverse communities as a result of the international schools he attended, Ray found a passion for student activism in college which informed his later career choices.<\/p>\n

The majority of his adult and professional life have been spent as administrative support for city and federal government. Ray interned at both the City of Portland\u2019s Office of Equity and Human rights and the City of Portland\u2019s Office of the Mayor, supporting efforts to bring awareness to issues like juvenile incarceration and its disproportionate impact on the black community. This inspired a transition into government where Ray worked as a Staff Assistant\/Constituent Services Representative for Mayor Charlie Hales and then Congresswoman Bonamici (OR-01), where he developed an intricate perspective into what matters most to Oregonians.<\/p>\n

With a passion for community, Ray enjoys Portland for its vibrant music and food scene. Always open to try new things, on the weekends you can find him at a live show or cooking\/BBQing with friends and family. As someone who grew up in a warmer climate and close to the coast, you can find him floating on the Clackamas river in the summer and by a fire in the winter.<\/p>\n

Ram\u00f3n Valdez grew up in Los Angeles in a mixed-status family from Mexico and El Salvador. He is an advocate, communicator, and full-stack developer who is passionate about community self-determination, storytelling, and closing the digital divide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to joining Seeding Justice, Ram\u00f3n worked as Director of Strategic Initiatives at Innovation Law Lab and as a freelancer on a range of nonprofit and business needs; including project management, front-end software development, and strategic communications.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through his work as an immigrant rights advocate, Ram\u00f3n helped to design, launch, and manage some of the largest and most forward-thinking humanitarian, pro bono legal representation, and disaster relief initiatives along the US-Mexico border, in the Midwest, and Pacific Northwest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of work, you can find Ram\u00f3n listening to and creating music, watching documentaries, and spending time with his wife, dog, and two cats. He is also proud to serve as a board member of Pueblo Unido PDX and the ACLU of Oregon. Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, Amanda moved to Portland two decades ago. After finishing law school, she served briefly as a juvenile defender before abandoning the formal practice of law to focus on education. She spent 15 years working in school districts, including as the Chief of Staff at the Portland Public Schools where she provided leadership and strategic support for key district policy initiatives.<\/p>\n

Amanda entered the world of philanthropy as the Chief Impact Officer at the United Way of the Columbia Willamette, where she led programming and strategic community investment in culturally specific and culturally responsive organizations through grant making, convening, policy work and volunteerism.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining Seeding Justice, Amanda was a consultant and supported a number of Seeding Justice\u2019s community funds.<\/p>\n

Amanda is an avid reader, runner and makes homemade ice cream. She and her husband Jim live with their three children, Jed, Willa and Levi and two dogs in Southeast Portland where they enjoy all things soccer. Rochelle (Tlingit, Haida, and European descendent) was born and raised on her Mother\u2019s ancestral lands in rural Alaska. It’s been nearly two decades since she was drawn to Portland to complete her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. With a rich professional history spanning two decades, Rochelle has made meaningful contributions to non-profit sectors in the fields of mental health and higher education. Prior to her role at Seeding Justice, Rochelle was involved in delivering outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, offering essential mental health support to unhoused youth, coordinating care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and cultivating connections and developing pathways for facilitating field learning experiences for aspiring educators and therapists. Rochelle’s approach to her work is characterized by her genuine passion for both systems and people.<\/p>\n

Joys outside of work include time spent outdoors, taking art classes, and the goodness of time together with friends & family.<\/p>\n
