He has been student organizing since early in his college days. He is the founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pisanw.org\/\">Pacific Islander Student Alliance<\/a> (PISA), which started in 2007 when he was an undergraduate student. He is also the founding coordinator of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcc.edu\/multicultural\/sylvania\/men-of-color\/#:~:text=The%20Men%20of%20Color%20Leadership,191%20Exploring%20Identity%20and%20Diversity.\">Men of Color Leadership Program at Portland Community College<\/a>, and before that, he was the coordinator of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdx.edu\/cultural-resource-centers\/pacific-islander-asian-asian-american-student-center\">Pacific Islander, Asian and Asian American (PIAAA) Student Center at Portland State University<\/a>, the Manager of Continuing Education at the University of the South Pacific, Majuro Campus, and the Director of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership at Chaminade University.<\/p>\n<p>Makerusa is a second-generation American Samoan from the village of Fogagogo. Mak started his college education at American Samoa Community College. He later received his BS from Portland State University, and a Master\u2019s in Education from Chaminade University of Honolulu. Away from his day job, Mak is an organizer with the <a href=\"https:\/\/world.350.org\/pacificwarriors\/\">Pacific Climate Warriors<\/a> of 350 Pacific, and is the former Chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samoapdx.org\/\">Samoa Pacific Development Corporation<\/a>, a 501(c)(3) organization for Samoans in Oregon.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pronouns: He \/ Him \/ His<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":6168,"template":"","member_type":[27],"class_list":["post-3266","team","type-team","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","member_type-grantmaker"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
